Luminograms

7/26 – 8/9
Wednesday 6-8pm
Katherine Akey

Course Description

During this class students will learn how to make luminograms. Lumen prints are made using gelatin silver paper, which is exposed to light and placed directly into the fixer. The prints can be made using digital negatives or objects (like a photogram), but they can also be made using only light itself. Beautiful pastel tones emerge in the process, and the prints can be left unfixed to further change over time. Students will experiment with different techniques to better understand the factors that influence the colors of the gelatin silver paper – the time of exposure, the type of light, and the kind of paper used in the process.

Requirement

Photo Center Orientation is not required for this class, but it is required if student wishes to come to the Photo Center outside the workshop to develop film on their own and/or print their own photos in the Darkroom.
