Course Description
Explore the beautiful and unique mordançage process in this six week course. Mordançage is an obscure darkroom technique developed in the 1970’s by French photographer Jean-Pierre Sudre, which evolved from the 19th century process of bleach-etching. After producing silver gelatin prints in the darkroom, participants will learn how to apply the mordançage process to achieve painterly and illustrative effects including bleach/etch, dépouillement, veils, and redevelopment. Participants will have ample time over the duration of this course to experiment with and explore this unpredictable process. A familiarity with basic darkroom techniques is recommended but not required.
