Course Description

Learn the basics of black and white film development! In this quick workshop students will be taught how to properly process their black and white film (35mm and/or 120 formats) Students must bring in a black and white roll of film ready for development. There are no prerequisites* and beginners are encouraged to sign-up. In order to participate in the workshop, students must provide their own roll of black and white film that has already been shot through a camera before the start of the workshop.u003c/strong Ilford HP5+ 400 or Kodak Tri-X 400 are recommended for beginners. No class time will be spent in the printing darkroom, and color film development will not be addressed in this course.u003c/strong

Requirement

Photo Center Orientation is not required for this class, and after the film is developed, students will be given an orientation on the Photo Center by the teacher to allow for memberships or day passes

Instructor Bio

Aaron Anderson is a multimedia artist working out of San Francisco, CA. He works in the photographic arts, often working with film and other analog processes. His output focuses on (but is certainly not limited to) long exposure photography in San Francisco. He currently works at the Harvey Milk Photo Center wherein he helps manage the largest black and white darkroom still operating in the US.

Instructor Bio – Chris Gould

Chris Gould is a photographer from Santa Rosa, California who has enjoyed taking pictures since he was a little kid. He studied at the San Francisco Art Institute and works in the black and white analog tradition -finding joy in the craft as well as the results. Chris has worked as a clerk and darkroom tech at the Harvey Milk Photo Center for over 10 years. He currently teaches currently teaches Darkroom Essentials and Processes and Basic Black and White Development.
