Bio:
The Heavy Water Collective is a motley crew of photographers spellbound by San Francisco’s wild western edge. Many of us live locally and can be found tucked in the avenues and dunes with long lenses or masochistically churning through whitewash, swimming against relentless currents, and diving beneath apartment-wall-sized apartment-wall sized waves with hefty water housings. All of us are, in our own ways, attempting to capture the raw power and beauty of this elemental arcane environment.
Curatorial Statement:
Heavy Water Collective Presents: Ocean Beach brings together 24 photographers who turn their lenses toward the Pacific, finding pockets of magic amidst a vast liquid field of chaos.
Some of these works play with the juxtaposition of ocean wilderness and concrete cityscapes, framing surfers speeding down powerful waves with electrical wiring and concrete in the foreground. Others ask you to forget the city and immerse in how light, energy, and human shapes can dance together. Each photograph displays a single permutation within an infinite, ever-changing landscape.
We invite you to share the awe and appreciation we have for this beach and enjoy taking in a different dimension of San Francisco.
